2019 opening day two weeks away

Season Opener May 31 in Hoptown

The 2019 edition of the Madisonville Miners will get their season underway on Friday night, May 31, in Hopkinsville against the Hoppers.

The game gets underway at 7:00 PM Central Time at Hopkinsville High School.

Admission will be FREE that night, so be sure to make the trip to Hopkinsville High School to help cheer the Miners on for Opening Night!

2019 OVL League and Rule Changes

With the addition of the Franklin Duelers this season, the OVL will have five teams in the East Division and four teams in the West Division.

The East Division will be comprised of the Dubois County (IN) Bombers, Franklin Duelers, Henderson Flash, Muhlenberg County Stallions, and Owensboro Oilers. The West Division will be comprised of the Fulton Railroaders, Hoptown Hoppers, Madisonville Miners, and Paducah Chiefs.

The OVL has voted to have a league-wide off-day on each Monday of the regular season. Also, with nine teams in the league, each team will get an additional night off during the week as the playing schedule rotates through. Each team will play a 40-game regular season schedule (weather permitting), and then head into the playoffs.

The OVL has also voted to implement the 10-Run Mercy Rule after seven innings this season. Additionally, all doubleheader games will be seven inning matchups.

2019 OVL “All League Team” Process

The OVL announced recently that Jones Brothers Towing & Trucking has agreed to sponsor the All League Team for the upcoming season.

Near the end of the regular season, the head coaches of the nine OVL teams will vote for the OVL’s best player at each defensive position, plus the best starting pitcher, relief pitcher, and designated hitter.

The top three vote recipients at each position will then be submitted to the fans to vote via the OVL’s Twitter account (@OVLBaseball).

Stay tuned for additional details as the season progresses.
