Bombers Defeat Miners 11-10 In Thriller at Elmer Kelley

The Miners spotted the Bombers eleven runs before a furious comeback stalled just shy of tying the game in the bottom of the 9th last night at Elmer Kelley Stadium.

The Bombers jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after two innings, added five more runs in their half of the third inning to extend the lead to 9-0, and tacked on one more run in both the fifth and sixth innings to take a commanding 11-0 lead into bottom of the eighth inning.

That’s when the Miners woke up. Madisonville rallied for five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to breathe some life into the team, and followed with five more runs in the bottom of the ninth to turn the game into a late night thriller. When the Bombers enticed a strikeout to finally end the game, the Miners had the potential tying run standing on second base.

Bomber starter Jacob Frankel earned the Win and generally dominated the Miners’ hitters for the first seven innings before running out of gas in the bottom of the eighth. Frankel finished his outing pitching 7.1 innings, scattering seven hits, giving up 4 runs (all earned), and striking out nine Miners. Frankel did not walk a batter. Jackson Blair entered the game with one out in the bottom of the ninth to earn the Save.

In their comeback, Madisonville got home runs from Hunter Mercer and Colin Brewer and solid bullpen work from Logan Brewer and Brennan Hatten. Miner starter Nicholas Rathke had a rocky outing, taking the loss after being chased from the game after only 2.1 innings of work.
