Madisonville Loses Home Opener to Dubois County, 8-1

The Dubois County Bombers (1-2) spoiled the home opener for Madisonville Miners (0-2) on Sunday night, 8-1.  The Bombers scored three runs in the top of the top of the 1st to take an early lead.  Madisonville answered with one run in the bottom of the 2nd, but the Bombers responded with one run in the top of the 3rd inning to make the score 4-1.  Dubois County added one run in the 5th and three more in the 7th to extend the lead out to the final margin of 8-1.  A complete box score is available HERE.

The Bombers were led at the plate by Nick Gobert, who went 2-for-2 and scored four runs.  Alex Ralph went 3-for-4 with two RBI, Drake McNamara went 1-for-4 with two RBI, and Cody Krumlauf got an RBI.  Alex Snodgrass went 1-for-3 and scored two runs, with Ryan Keck and Morgan DePew each scoring a run each.  Dubois County was assisted offensively by four Madisonville errors.

Cory Finkler scored Madisonville’s only run of the ballgame on a sacrifice fly from Tyler Greiner in the bottom of the 2nd inning.  Carlton Peppers went 2-for-4, with Nolan Ramsey and Shane Connahan each batting 1-for-3.

Bomber starting pitcher Devin Williams got the Win for Dubois County.  Williams scattered four hits over eight complete innings, giving up one earned run, walking four Miners, and striking out five.  Nicholas Scheller pitched a perfect 9th inning to close out the game for the Bombers.

Starting pitcher Colton Nussel took the Loss for Madisonville, allowing four runs (one earned) on five hits in three innings of work.  Blaine Alvey pitched three innings in relief, allowing one unearned run on two hits, a walk, and a strikeout.  Alvey gave way to Mathias Brewers, who pitched just one-third of an inning.  Brewers gave up three runs (all earned) on one hit, three walks, and one strikeout.  Nicholas Purpera completed the seventh inning for Brewers, walking one batter and striking one.  Kyle Vedrode pitched the final two innings for Madisonville, giving up one hit and striking out four.

Madisonville will try to get into the win column on Monday night in Owensboro against the Oilers (2-0).  The game starts at 7pm at Apollo High School.
