Miners Advance to Semi-finals

Miners Eliminate Stallions 12-6 Tuesday Night

The rain stayed away from Elmer Kelley Stadium on Tuesday night, and the Miners and Stallions finally hooked up for the Round One playoff match-up. The Miners committed six errors and gave up six unearned runs in holding off a scrappy Stallion team in a 12-6 victory to advance to the OVL playoff semi-finals.

The Miners took an early 3-0 lead with three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The big blow of the inning was a two-RBI single from Logan Jarvis , driving in Genesis Hillard and Joe McGuinness. Chase Hensley scored later in the inning on a wild pitch from Stallion starter Max Hall.

The Stallions got on the board with one run in the top of the 4th inning when Justin Ware singled and later scored on a Madisonville throwing error.

Madisonville answered with four runs in the bottom of the 5th to make the score 7-1. Austin Sistrunk and Nolan Ramsey each drove in one run, and Tom Prospero belted a two-run home run over the right field fence.

Both teams added runs in later innings, with Madisonville adding four runs in the bottom of the seventh and one more in the bottom of eighth.  The Stallions scored three in the top of the sixth and tow more in the top of the eighth.

Madisonville starter Jeff Lindgren pitched six complete innings and picked up the Win. Although the Stallions scored four runs with Lindgren on the mound, all of the runs were unearned. Lindgren allowed six hits, walked one, and struck out three. Kyle Klotz pitched two innings, giving up one hit, two walks, and striking out two. The Stallions scored two unearned runs with Klotz pitching. Mitchell Bault came on to pitch the ninth and struck one in retiring the side in order to end the game.
