Miners come up short at Dubois Co

Dubois County Bombers 6, Madisonville Miners 3.  (From Dubois County)  The Dubois County Bombers kicked off the final week of the regular season with a 6-3 victory over the Madisonville Miners. The Bombers record now inches back over .500 at 17-16 with just five regular-season games remaining.
Coach Wes Fink tabbed Murray State’s Brandon Hicks for his second mound start. Hicks scattered nine Miners base hits, limiting them to two runs in six innings of work. Meanwhile the Bombers offense scored in each of the first four innings.
In the top of the first, Nick Calandra scored on a fielder’s choice, giving Madisonville a short-lived 1-0 lead.
The Bombers answered with two in the bottom of the first. Nick Gobert drove in Caleb Lonkard and Glenn Jones with a two-out single. Dubois County would not trail again on this night. Caleb Lonkard drove in Kaleb King in the second. Rick Linton brought Gobert home in the third with a bases-loaded single.
Both teams scored in the fourth. Rutger Luebke crossed the plate for Madisonville, scoring on a fielder’s choice. Dubois County added a pair in the bottom of the inning when Ty Broady and Gobert scored on a pair of Madisonville errors.
Hicks turned the game over to Brian Wichman after six innings, Dubois County holding a 6-2 advantage. Wichman pitched the rest of the game, earning the save by limiting Madisonville to a single run on two hits in three innings of work.
Hicks picks up his second win in as many starts. He collected three saves early in the season. Wichman gets credit for his first save. Miners starter Colton Nussel takes the loss, falling to 0-3.
The Bombers record improves to 18-17, pulling them within 2 ½ games of idle Hopkinsville. Dubois County travels to play the Hoppers tonight..
