Miners come up short at Owensboro

Owensboro Oilers , Madisonville Miners.  (From Owensboro)  The Owensboro Oilers won a Sunday night home game against the the visiting Madisonville Miners. The final score was Miners 4 to Oilers 5. The win was the Oilers third in a row, maintaining just the team’s current spot, a half game back of the OVL League standings lead.

    The Miners scored first with one run in the top of the 2nd inning. Miner newcomers Kevin Dupree and Martin Jackson both walked to lead off the frame. Both runners were sacrificed up a base. Dupree eventually scored from third base on a wild pitch that brought Jackson as far as third base.
The Oilers responded with three runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. With one out, Cameron Wallace walked. Braxton Brinkley reached on an error that allowed him to take third base — receiving RBI credit for Wallace’s run. Brinkley scored on a following RBI single by Alfredo Bohorques, who then stole second base. A fly out later Tyler Rachel RBI singled to drive in Bohorques.At the end of three complete innings Owensboro led by the score 3 to 1.
Madisonville narrowed the score with one run in the top of the 7th inning. Jake Perry led off with a double. He was bunted over to third base. Adam Schuster manufactured the run with an RBI sacrifice fly.
Owensboro pushed across two insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th inning. Brinkley led off with a single, and was bunted over to second base. Christian McHatton reached on an error that put Brinkley on third base. McHatton stole secomd base as Brinkey stayed put. Rachel was deliberately walked. Harold Diaz RBI sacrifice bunted, plating Brinley. A resulting error allowed McHatton in as well.

    The Miners rallied in the top of the 9th, but managed only 2 runs. Pinch-hitter Rutger Luebke reached on an error.  Jake Perry followed with an RBI triple. Two outs later, Colton Nussel  RBI  singled to score Perry. Madisonville came no closer than 5 to 4 by the end of the game.

    The win went to short notice Owensboro starter, Jake Wilson. Mark Chemello earned a save. Miners starter Bickerton got the loss.  Box Scores Click Here.
