Miners Name Joe Martinez Head Coach For 2019 Season

The Miners are excited to introduce Jose (Joe) Martinez as the Head Coach for the upcoming 2019 summer baseball season.

Joe comes to the Miners after a one-year stint as the head coach of the Utica (NY) Blue Sox of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League.

In 2018, Joe’s team finished with a 25-21 record. Under Joe’s leadership, the Blue Sox placed five players on the PGCBL All Star team and a host of players on the PGCBL All League list at the conclusion of the season. Joe’s team finished third in the PGCBL in team batting average and finished the year with the most single-season “walk off” wins in Blue Sox history.

Joe has served in numerous capacities with the Bullets Baseball organization since 2009, including Vice President of Player Development, Head Coach, and 16u and 18u Scout. Accomplishments include:

  • 97% of players commit to college or university baseball programs
  • 2015 IBC World Series Champions
  • Program consistently in state and national rankings

Joe has additionally served as the head instructor and assistant coach at the Frozen Ropes Baseball Academy, owner/operator of the Scorpion Baseball Academy, and assistant coach/hitting instructor in the Tidewater College Summer League.

As as professional player, Joe played in the AA Puerto Rico Winter League (1995-1996) and in the Detroit Tigers organization for two seasons.

Joe played college baseball at the Borough of Manhattan Community College, earning All Conference recognition both seasons and being voted Team Captain and MVP by his teammates. Joe hit a smooth .435 in his first season and .465 in his second season.

Joe currently resides in Tampa, Florida, with his family.
