The Miners and head coach Joe Martinez are pleased to announce that Mateo Gil will play for the Miners in 2019.
Mateo is 5’10” 180-pound sophomore at Salem University in Salem, West Virginia. During his freshman season at Salem, Mateo played third base, hit .373, and stole seven bases for the Tigers in 21 games. A native of Staten Island, New York, Mateo graduated from Grand Street Campus High School in Brooklyn, New York, in 2017. Mateo was a Perfect Game All-American in 2017.
Coach Martinez reports that Mateo has a strong arm, “peppers the gaps” with the bat, and that Mateo may play in the outfield or third base for the Miners.
