All regular season games are played and the final regular standings are set. Congratulations to the Dubois County Bombers and Hoptown Hoppers on winning their respective division titles!

2017 Playoff Bracket

The Miners finished in third place in the OVL West with an 18-22 record. Although tied with Fulton (18-22) in the standings, Madisonville earns the #3 seed in the West Division due to winning the tie-breaker with most runs scored in head-to-head games against Fulton (63 runs to 61 runs).

The Miners will face the Henderson Flash, the #2 seed from the East Division, in Round One of the playoffs. The series will be best-of-three, with Game 1 scheduled for Friday night, July 21, at BT Wayne Field on the campus of Henderson County High School. Game 2 is scheduled for Saturday night, July 22, at Elmer Kelley Stadium in Madisonville. If Game 3 is necessary, the series will move back to Henderson on Sunday, July 23.

Miners End Regular Season With 9-6 Loss to Hoptown at Elmer Kelley

The Miners ended the 2017 regular season on Tuesday night with a 9-6 loss to the Hoptown Hoppers at Elmer Kelley Stadium. Alex Walker collected the Win for the Hoppers, Carson Imes took the Loss for the Miners, and Hoptown relieverJonathan Jacks earned a three-inning Save.

The loss dropped the Miners to 18-22 for the season.

Playoff Picture

While Madisonville has concluded its regular season, several teams still have one more game to play. As of the time of this post, the Miners are in third place in the OVL West standings, 1/2-game behind second place Paducah and 1/2-game ahead of fourth place Fulton.

Fulton is scheduled to play at Muhlenberg County on Wednesday night to make up a rain out from July 6. Paducah is scheduled to play Henderson to make up a rain out from the same date. The outcome of both games finalize the playoff bracket.

Tuesday Night start time pushed back to 8pm central time due to weather

Tonight’s game against the Hoptown Hoppers at Elmer Kelley Stadium in Madisonville has been pushed back to an 8PM Central start time due to rain currently moving through the Madisonville area.

Bellinger Pitches Gem in 7-1 Win Over Chiefs

Starting pitcher Jack Bellinger shut down the Paducah Chiefs for eight-plus innings as the Miners cruised to 7-1 victory Monday night at Elmer Kelley Stadium. Bellinger earned the Win and pitched 8.67 innings, allowing just one unearned run on four hits, two walks, and nine strikeouts.

The Miners offense got started early, scoring two runs in the bottom the first inning and giving Bellinger all of the cushion he needed. The Miners put two more runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning and added three insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Chad Hinkle hit a solo home run, Logan Jarvis drove in two runs, and Bradley Hull went 2-for-3 and scored two runs to lead the Miners at the plate. The Miners banged out twelve total hits, with every Miner batter knocking at least one base hit on the night.

OVL Standings

The win moved the Miners (18-21) into sole possession of second place in the OVL West standings with only Tuesday night’s game against the Hoppers remaining in the regular season. With the loss, the Chiefs (17-21) dropped 1/2-game behind the Miners and into third place in the West, tied with the Fulton Railroaders (17-21).

With the bottom three teams in the division within 1/2-game of each other, the playoff picture and seeding won’t be finalized until all remaining regular season games are played.

Hoppers Down Miners 10-4 Sunday Night; Playoff Picture

The Hoptown Hoppers clinched the OVL West division championship with a 10-4 win over the Miners on Sunday night at Elmer Kelley Stadium.

Playoff Standings and Bracket

The win moved the Hoppers to 22-15 on the season and guaranteed Hoptown a #1 seed in the upcoming OVL Post-Season Playoffs. Madisonville dropped to 17-21 overall and back into a #4 seed with two games remaining in the regular season.

In the OVL East division, the Dubois County Bombers (27-10) clinched the OVL East crown last week and secured the other #1 playoff seed.

Remaining Regular Season Games

Madisonville hosts the Paducah Chiefs (17-20) on Monday night and winds up the regular season at home on Tuesday night against the Hoppers. Both games have playoff implications, with the bottom three teams in the OVL East within 1/2-game of one another.
