Thursday Night: Miners Lose In Hoptown

(From Hopkinsville) In front of an attendance of 275, the Hopkinsville Hoppers defeated the Madisonville Miners by a score of 19 to 5 on Thursday evening in Hopkinsville.  The 19 runs scored by the Hoppers were the most scored in franchise history since it joined the OVL.  The complete Box Score is available HERE.

Hopkinsville had 19 runs on 15 hits and had one error.  Madisonville had 5 runs with 11 hits and had 7 errors.

Hopkinsville scored 10 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, 9 of which were unearned, due to 4 Madisonville errors.  Cody Duncan of the Hoppers capped off the inning by hitting a grand slam.  Matt Cogen added a homer for the Hoppers, Ernie De la Trindad had single, double, and a grand slam for a total of 5 RBIs, and Will Olsen had 3 doubles in pacing the Hopper attack.  Brady Walsh picked up the victory for the Hoppers, pitching 7 innings of 2 run baseball.

EJ Watson went 3-3 and scored one run for the Miners, with Matt Walsh batting 3-5 and scoring two runs.  Shane Connahan picked up two RBI on a 2-4 night at the plate.  Addison Ropsert added the other RBI.  Brooks Benson and Jacob Czismadia each scored one run for the Miners.  Nicholas Purpera suffered the loss for the Miners.

The loss drops the Miners to 17-12 on the season, while the win raises the Hoppers to 11-17.

Madisonville travels to Fulton on Friday night to take on the Railroaders (16-13), and the Hoppers get the night off.
